Why fem-boy.com Is Free — and Why Free Is a Commitment, Not a Trial

Most dating apps are "free" in the same way a supermarket sample is a meal. You can sign up, but you cannot see who liked you, you run out of likes by lunchtime, and the messages you actually want to read sit behind a blur. The business model depends on loneliness feeling just painful enough that you pay to make it stop.

We decided early that fem-boy.com would not work that way. As we close out our first year, we want to explain that decision — and make it a public commitment.

What "free" means here

• Creating a profile, browsing, liking and matching: free.
• Seeing who liked you: free.
• Messaging your matches, with no weekly limit: free.
• Community chat, Daily Spark and games: free.
• Safety tools — blocking, reporting, private photos, visibility controls: free, always.

There is no premium tier and no "boost" that pushes paying users ahead of everyone else in discovery. Everyone is on the same footing.

Why we think it matters for this community

Paywalls do not fall evenly. LGBTQ+ people — and trans people in particular — are more likely to face housing instability, employment discrimination and family rejection. Young adults who are newly out often have the least money and the greatest need for community. A dating site that charges for connection quietly filters out the people who need it most.

Safety features are the clearest example. Locking blocking, reporting or privacy controls behind a subscription would mean selling protection. We will not do that.

"If it is free, you are the product" — not here

It is a fair question to ask how a free site sustains itself. What we will not do is make up the difference with your data. We do not sell, share or use identity information for advertising, and we do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Our Privacy Policy spells this out in plain language.

We keep costs low by running lean infrastructure and a small team. If we ever introduce optional ways to support the site, they will be exactly that — optional — and they will never unlock features that change who you can meet or how safe you are.
