Why We Launched fem-boy.com: A Dating Home Built Around You

Two figures under a rainbow-lit night sky, holding hands beside a glowing heart

Every dating app says it is for everyone. If you are a femboy, a trans woman, non-binary, genderfluid, or simply someone who doesn't fit neatly into a dropdown menu, you already know how hollow that promise can sound. The gender field offers two options. The bio gets reported for being "misleading." The matches that do arrive are too often curiosity, fetish, or hostility dressed up as a conversation.

We launched fem-boy.com in June 2025 — during Pride month, deliberately — because we were tired of watching people we care about shrink themselves to fit platforms that were never designed for them.

The problem with being an "edge case"

Most large dating products are built around a default user and then patched for everyone else. Identity options get added as a settings toggle years after launch. Moderation teams are trained on the most common abuse patterns, which means transphobic harassment and outing threats slip through. Recommendation algorithms optimise for the majority, so anyone outside it becomes harder to find and easier to ignore.

None of that is necessarily malicious. It is simply what happens when a community is an afterthought. The result, though, is the same: people spend their energy defending their existence instead of getting to know someone.

What we set out to build

fem-boy.com started from the opposite assumption. The people the site is named for are not an edge case here — they are the centre. That single decision shaped everything that followed:

  • Identity comes first in the profile, in your own words, not squeezed into a binary field.
  • Femboys, trans and non-binary people, and the people who love and respect them, all belong — and the community guidelines say so explicitly.
  • Safety and privacy tools are part of the core product, not a premium add-on.
  • Everything that matters — matching, messaging, community chat — is free.

Dating, and also more than dating

Not everyone who joins is looking for a partner tonight. Some people want friends who understand them. Some are newly out and want to see what an affirming space even feels like. Some live somewhere small where the nearest queer bar is three hours away. That is why fem-boy.com also has General Talk, a community chat room, Daily Spark prompts that give people an easy way to start talking, and Would We Vibe?, a light guessing game you can play before matching.

Romance often grows out of community. We wanted to make room for both.

A promise, not a pitch

You should never have to explain your identity before someone is willing to say hello.

That line sat on a sticky note above our desk while we were building the first version, and it is still the test we apply to every feature. If a change makes people feel more exposed, more judged, or more like a novelty, it does not ship.

If any of this sounds like the place you have been looking for, join fem-boy.com for free and say hello. And if you want to understand how it works before you sign up, start with How It Works and our Safety page. We are glad you are here.
